Lab barcode software that stops the wrong tube
Mislabelling is the most expensive error a lab makes, and it happens at collection rather than at analysis. By the time a wrong result reaches a report, the cause is three steps upstream and nobody remembers it.
Lab barcode software assigns a barcode to each billed test at registration and pairs it with the correct sample type and vial colour. The sample then carries a status — collected, entered, approved, reported — so its position in the workflow is always known.
Barcode assigned at billing, not at the bench
Each billed test is given its barcode when the bill is raised, so the label exists before the sample does. There is no window in which a tube is sitting unlabelled waiting for someone to get to it.
Colour-coded vials so the right tube is obvious
Sample types carry their vial colour — EDTA, serum, citrate, fluoride and the rest — and the colour appears with the test. Collection staff match a colour rather than recalling which additive a given test needs.
A status that answers where is it
Each billed test moves through collected, entered, approved and reported. When a patient or a referring doctor asks where a report is, the answer is on screen rather than a walk to the bench.
The report waits for every test
A report can only be produced once every test on the bill is approved, so a partially finished bill cannot go out looking complete.
Frequently asked questions
What is lab barcode software?
Lab barcode software prints a unique barcode for each sample or billed test so it can be identified without relying on handwriting. It links the physical tube to the patient record and tracks its status through the workflow.
Do I need a special barcode printer?
Barcodes are generated by the software and can be printed on standard label stock. A dedicated label printer makes collection faster at higher volumes but is not required to start.
Does it support colour-coded vials?
Yes. Each sample type carries its vial colour, which is shown alongside the test at collection so staff draw into the correct tube rather than recalling the additive for each test.
